Story of Ch. 1 Sec. 1 Story
-1st Americans crossed from Asia on the Bering Land Bridge
-Began Farming
-No longer had to be nomadic
-This allowed them to specialize
-This led to them having surpluses of goods
-This allowed them to trade with others
-They had to travel to trade, which led to and exchange of ideas
-This led to cultures advancing
-Eventually three civilizations became great in the Americas

Story of Ch. 1 Sec. 2
Culture = ways of life
Early cultures developed in the S.W. and the Miss. Valley and were focused mostly on survival. Spread all across N & S America and adapted to their environments.

Story of Ch. 1 Sec. 3
Islam became a major religion in the Arab world. Arabians made remarkable contributions to math (dev. algebra), medicine, and astronomy. Complex trade networks developed in E. & W. Africa. China dominated the trade routes that linked E. Asia to the Middle East.

Story of Ch. 1 Sec. 4
-1st monotheistic religion is Judaism
-2nd is Christianity
-Judaism and Christianity became the foundation of religious beliefs in Europe.
-Protestantism comes along and eventually all of Europe is either Christian or
Protestant.
-Greece and Rome provided the basis for modern ideas about democratic government.
-Eventually, Europeans set up our government that is based on Christian religious beliefs and the ideas about democracy we got from Rome and Greece.

-American form of democracy.
-Republic – a form of gov. in which people choose representatives to govern them.
-Europe advances by coming into contact with Arabs in the Crusades and through
the Renaissance.
-Martin Luther begins the Protestant Reformation and now we have many Protestant churches.
-Europeans start to explore easier ways to trade.
-Led by Henry The Navigator of Portugal
- Portuguese sailor Vasco da Gama is 1st to sail around tip of Africa.
